Riverfield Academy was founded in 1970 for the purpose of providing quality education to children of northeast Louisiana. The school provided education for grades 1-11. The next year, a 12th grade was added. Later, they added kindergarten. The school was intended to be built at Holly Ridge but when the plans failed, George Franklin and Lewis and Billy Hubbard donated the present land. The building was designed to resemble the architecture of Tallulah Academy. Riverfield was named by Judge John Morris after Boeuf River and the field on which it was built. Our Mascot came from Oakland Raiders, a popular football team at the time. Patriotic colors became our school colors, and Mrs. Gladys Lane wrote the Alma Mater. Lights, bleachers, and original football uniforms came from Holly Ridge. When the gym slab was poured, it was stated with pride that this was “the biggest, solid slab with no cracks in this part of Louisiana.” The principals that have helped run our school from past to present are Charles Horn, George Riser, Billy Henderson, John Beach, James Hogue, Billy Watson, William White, Carlton Johnson, Charles Meador, Harry Panky, and the present principal Marie Miller. Mrs. Marie Miller is the first woman principal we have had. |
